Valencia, best city in the world to live

Índice

Several rankings, including one prepared by Forbes magazine, highlight the growing appeal of the Valencian Community Capital

Valencia looks unapologetically at the other two major Spanish cities, Madrid and Barcelona. Its appeal continues to grow and its proximity to our campus is one of the reasons to take into account when choosing the international experience that Gasma offers.

The capital of the Valencian Community surprises once again and is ranked as the best city in the world to live in, according to the ranking recently published by the InterNations portal – the world’s largest community of expatriates. Specifically, the list includes those cities where people who live or work outside their place of birth are happier. This recognition joins that of major international media. At the beginning of 2023, the prestigious Forbes magazine also placed the city of Valencia at the top of the ranking in terms of quality of life. And in 2022 CNN considered it the best destination to travel to.

Quality of life, security and a satisfactory social life

Regarding the list prepared annually by the InterNations portal, Valencia occupies the first position not only globally, but also in other fundamental aspects. One of them is quality of life. Specifically, the new inhabitants of Valencia highlight public transport, safety and opportunities to practice sports. Furthermore, the expatriate community highlights the ease of finding accommodation and settling in and they claim to “feel at home” thanks to a satisfactory social life.

From the historic center to the City of Arts and Sciences

Valencia is much more than quality of life. And the city has important attractions for tourists and residents. Its historic center configured around the Carmen neighborhood is one of the largest medieval layouts in Europe with monuments such as the Lonja de la Seda or the Central Market.

In addition, the Turia Gardens, with  a lenght of 7 kilometers, form the largest urban park in Spain. And of course, we do not forget the City of Arts and Sciences, the futuristic complex designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, which has the Palau de les Arts, the Oceanográfico and the CaixaFòrum museum, among other attractions.

The city of Valencia also stands out for its Mediterranean character. Not in vain, its municipal area has 19 kilometers of beach and important natural ecosystems such as the Albufera Park. All this with a benevolent climate and more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

Gastronomy, one of its great attractions

That Mediterranean character is especially felt in its gastronomy. Located on the seashore and surrounded by orchards, it is one of the great pantries in Europe. Valencian cuisine goes far beyond paella, its most international dish, and has attracted the attention of the sector. Not in vain, the city hosted the presentation of the 2023 Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal and chef José Andrés chose it as one of the destinations for the documentary series, José Andrés & Family produced by HBO. In addition, the city currently has 9 restaurants included in the Red Guide, among which El Poblet and Ricard Camarena stand out, with 2 stars each. Not only that, but many of its chefs are members of our Culinary Team and show undergraduate and master’s students their contemporary vision of Mediterranean cuisine.

In short, the city is experiencing its sweetest moment and offers Gasma students the perfect environment to fully enjoy gastronomy and the international experience.
